As Star Wars Fans, we have no trouble answering random questions about this Galaxy. We know that a lightsaber is the ultimate weapon of the Star Wars Galaxy that can cut through everything except Beskar material and a few other materials.

The crossovers with other fanfiction universes raise more questions. These questions can be difficult to answer even for Star Wars enthusiasts. One such question that had been a hot topic among the Star Wars community is related to the Marvel-Star Wars crossover.

Captain America, as we know, is one of the strongest heroes of Marvel and carries an unbreakable shield known as Vibranium. His shield makes the fans wonder, Can a lightsaber cut through Vibranium? Let’s find out.

Limitations

We can say lightsabers can cut through anything as we have seen lightsabers slicing through thick metal walls, big rocks, and even deflecting bullets. Is lightsaber really invincible? No! there are materials in Star Wars Universe that a lightsaber cannot cut through.

One such material is Beskar. It is some sort of Iron material that can absorb heat more than 25000 Celcius without melting or breaking apart. The lightsaber has a Plasma blade of heat from 7000 to 25000 Celcius. So, if there is a material that can absorb or deflect heat more than 25000 Celcius can easily resist a lightsaber strike.

On the other hand, Captain America’s shield, Vibranium, is also one of the toughest shields in the Marvel universe. The very purpose of the shield is to block extremely powerful blows or strikes. Surprisingly, we saw Vibranium blocking the blow of Thor’s hammer.

Like lightsabers, Vibranium has its limitations. If you can remember, two heavy blows of Thor’s hammer slightly dented the Vibranium shield. That is not it. Thanos completely destroyed the shield when Captain America confronted an alternate Thanos. So, Captain America’s shield is not invincible after all.

Despite their limitations, both weapons are extremely powerful and unpredictable. So, can a lightsaber cut through Vibranium? Let’s see what Mark Hamill, the actor who played Luke Skywalker, had to say about this question.

Mark Hamill’s View

Someone asked a question to Mark Hamill on Twitter, if a lightsaber can cut through a Vibranium shield? He responded by saying, “the question was answered two years ago.” After going two years back into his tweets, I found out that Mark gave two scenarios. One was Star Wars’ scenario, while the other was Marvel’s scenario.

According to Marvel’s scenario, he said “no.” meaning a lightsaber cannot cut through a Vibranium shield. On the other hand, his views on the Star Wars scenario were funny yet claiming. According to his Star Wars scenario, he said: “Luke wouldn’t fight a hero, but if he asked to do so, he could cut it into million little pieces.”

However, his views were refuted by Captain America, aka Chris Evan, by saying, “ Foolish. Now I have Vibranium ninja Stars.” So, according to Mark Hamill, a lightsaber can cut through Vibranium. The case is the opposite, according to Chris Evan.

More About It

The same question was asked Samuel L Jackson, Mace Windu’s actor, in an interview. Jackson said without hesitation, “the lightsaber would cut through anything easily. Vibranium too.”

This conversation is not going anywhere, so instead of looking at the celebrities’ quarrel, let’s get into a little bit of science.

You can also go into the deep analysis done by Youtuber Kyle Hill, as in the link below.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=5xFM-eq_ej8%3Ffeature%3Doembed%26enablejsapi%3D1%26origin%3Dhttps%3A

According to Kyle, the Vibranium shield needs to be cut by the higher temperature it was forged. No one knows how much heat it took to get forged, plus it is not clear how much more heat can cut through the shield.

No matter the temperature, a lightsaber plasma is already at the temperature peak. So, can the lightsaber cut through Vibranium? The answer was no!

The Vibranium shield is made of a combination of materials that absorb Kinetic energy. It is why Vibranium was able to hold on to Thor’s hammer’s blows as it was the impact energy. Can it hold a plasma blade lightsaber slash?

Since lightsabers are used as swords, they are used with the combination of both Kinetic energy (the Force and energy of the Jedis.)  and Plasma energy. Vibranium can hold onto the Kinetic energy blow if it is instant. So, can a lightsaber cut through a Vibranium if it is not instant?

The answer is simple. Yes! Like we have seen lightsaber cutting through thick metal doors. A lightsaber can cut through the Vibranium shield if the Jedis have enough time to slowly cut it down. This is highly unlikely if a duel between Luke and Captain America occurs. Captain America will not give him enough time to cut through the shield.

Nevertheless, the lightsaber can cut the shield or not. A duel between Luke Skywalker and Captain America will be worth watching.
