General Grievous had intense hate for the Jedis for a reason. He turned to the Republic during the war to get help, but since the Republic had taken sides, he was sent back without any help. His people were left unintended to die and starve.

Not long after, he joined his forces with the Sith lords Darth Sidious and Darth Tyarannous against the Republic and the Jedi order. His purpose had nothing to do with the plan of Darth Sidious. He just wanted to see a world where there are no Jedi. He was so absorbed in his hate that he started hunting the Jedis.

took the lightsabers and kept them to himself. He was not Force-sensitive; he kept the lightsabers as his trophies. According to the legends, he had more than a hundred lightsabers in his collection, but the officials themselves confirm some.
