Like many other Star Wars characters, there is still a lot to be revealed about Rey. The protagonist of the sequels of the Star Wars trilogy is a fun character to learn about. She is a Jedi taking the legacy of all the Jedis on a new journey. Just like her, Rey’s lightsabers are also a complete mystery. As seen in sequels, she wielded multiple lightsabers until the finale.

While we hope for more movies about Rey, let’s talk about some interesting facts about Rey’s lightsabers and herself we don’t know.

Rey Skywalker

Rey was a young scavenger girl living alone in the deserts of Jakku. She survived on that resourceless planet by selling junk to the junk dealers.

The real name of Rey was Kira. The name originally came from George Lucas in his book “The Last Jedi.” The actress Daisy Ridley said that the cast changed the name. She did not know the name had been changed to Rey until the shooting for the film “Force Awakens.” began. She only found out after the director J.J Abrahams told her about it after the filming had started.

Kira fits George Lucas’s liking of the Japanese name, just like Luke’s name. But now Rey sounds perfect to the fans as well.

Rey Skywalker lived a tough childhood, but a great destiny awaited her. She became a Jedi after finding Luke’s lightsaber. Both Leia and Luke trained her, and she finished the Dark threats and killed Palpatine for good.

Rey wielded multiple lightsabers before and after she killed Palpatine. Let’s discuss everything before Rey’s lightsabers and her lightsaber colors and meanings.

The Granddaughter of Palpatine

Rey was the granddaughter of Palpatine, and Palpatine himself killed her parents. It was not a shocking moment for her but also for the fans. Palpatine survived somehow when Darth Vader threw him. He was preparing for his “Final Order.” in hiding. His entire plan was to get killed at the hands of Rey to pass her the Sith legacy. However, it turned out completely opposite to what he wanted.

Indeed, The Dark Forces always survive, but even a Sith lord cannot decide who will be the next Sith. Rey was the granddaughter of Palpatine. Still, she chose the light side of the Force. Instead of carrying the Sith legacy, she carried the legacy of the Jedis.

She called herself Skywalker for a reason. Both her teachers, Leia and Luke, were Skywalkers. She called herself Skywalker as she considered them as their parents who taught her the right path.

Rey’s Lightsaber Colors

Let’s check all Rey’s lightsabers and where did she get those lightsabers in detail.

Rey’s Lightsaber Blue Color

Rey’s first lightsaber was Luke’s blue lightsaber, also known as the Skywalker lightsaber. Luke Skywalker lost this lightsaber on Cloud city during his fight against Darth Vader. Rey Skywalker found it in a castle approximately two decades after the event of Cloud city.

When Rey traveled alongside Han Solo on a planet to meet his friend, Maz. She heard whispers calling her into the basement of the castle. She went down and found the blue lightsaber.

Rey used Luke’s blue lightsaber in all three episodes of the sequel trilogy. Rey was not an expert Jedi. She did not get any training in the first episode. Still, she could use the Force and even defeat Kylo Ren with this blue Rey’s lightsaber.

2nd Rey’s Lightsaber (Leia Skywalker’s Lightsaber)

Rey wielded a second lightsaber as seen in “The Last Jedi.” As we know, she got her Jedi training from Luke on the Ahch-To planet. Before she could go to fight against Palpatine, Luke gave him another lightsaber. He went into his hut, opened a secret closet in the wall, and took out a blue lightsaber.

He told her that it was her sister, Leia’s lightsaber. Leia took her Jedi training in her youth, and she wielded this blue lightsaber. Luke gave this blue lightsaber to Rey.

At this point, she used both blue lightsabers against Palpatine. The dual lightsaber suited her lightsaber fighting style. Although, she dropped Leia’s lightsaber during the fight. She finished Palpatine with her first lightsaber.

Rey’s Lightsaber Switch

Going back into the sequels, we saw Rey’s lightsaber switch. She did not use a lightsaber switch, but she had a vision holding a lightsaber switch.

Kylo Ren was trying to turn her to the Dark Side of the Force. Ren probably manipulated her thoughts to get this vision. Rey got the vision that she was wearing a Sith cape with a red-colored lightsaber switch.

Rey’s lightsaber switch had similarities with Pong Krell’s lightsaber, who served during the Clone Wars. Pong Krell could fold and unfold his lightsaber. Folding the lightsaber gave him two lightsaber blades parallel to each other. Unfolding it gets him a double-bladed lightsaber.

Rey’s lightsaber had two blades in parallel. It meant that if she had turned to the Dark Side, she will have a red lightsaber switch.

Obi-Wan once said, “The Dark Side is powerful, and those who oppose it are more powerful.” Rey might have this vision that she would become a Sith lord, but she resisted it. Ultimately, she became one of the strongest Jedis that ever lived.

Rey’s Lightsaber Yellow

In the finale of the sequels, Rey Skywalker appeared with a new cool lightsaber. After she killed Darth Sidious, she went back to Jakku planet. She buried both the blue lightsabers of her teachers in honor of their legacy. Then, she ignited a new lightsaber, and we saw an unexpected Rey yellow lightsaber color.

She had a standard yellow lightsaber. Rey’s yellow lightsaber looked more like a primitive design if we looked closer. She used some metal parts to create the hilt herself. She knew well about scavenged parts and how to make use of them. However, where did he get a yellow Kyber crystal is a mystery.

Luke Skywalker once wielded a yellow lightsaber after he lost the blue lightsaber. Rey used his first lightsaber. The chances are that she found his yellow lightsaber too somewhere and decided to use it.

Will we see more of Rey’s yellow lightsaber? Only the time will tell.

Rey’s Yellow Lightsaber Meaning

Like every color has a meaning in Star Wars, we also get a yellow lightsaber explanation from the officials.

We know Mace Windu’s purple lightsaber meant he knew both the light and Dark Force abilities. Likewise, Rey’s blue lightsabers meant that she was a Jedi. Now, Rey’s yellow lightsaber could mean she had some sort of connection with both the Jedi and the Sith.

The story told us that she was the Granddaughter of Palpatine. The connection with the Dark Side was strong in her blood. Likewise, she was the apprentice of the two greatest Jedis ever. She learned about the Light Side of the Force deeply. Her connection with both sides of the Force could be the reason for Rey’s yellow lightsaber.

Although, officials also tell us that the yellow lightsaber could indicate a new era. She buried the blue lightsaber, and carrying a yellow lightsaber color meant she wanted to end the Sith/Jedi legacy.
