Are you ready to become a Jedi? Well! To become a Jedi, you need to learn How to Build Lightsabers of your own. You may not be able to perform the Jedi rituals, but you can make a lightsaber right home. How cool is that? We live in times where we can benefit from technology and create a realistic lightsaber at home.

So, are you ready to build a lightsaber on your own? Follow this easy guide we have created for the fans. Create your own lightsaber with a few steps and easily accessible parts, and set out on your first Jedi adventure.

Lightsaber Parts

The first step in building a lightsaber is to know about all the parts of a lightsaber. I want to mention that you can not find a Kyber crystal in our world, nor can you cut anything with these lightsabers. This lightsaber is for friendly dueling or events.

These parts include a lightsaber blade, hilt, emitter, pommel, soundboard, an electric board, LED strips, and a battery. These parts are easily available. Go to your nearby electric store and pick up these parts, including everything that may come in handy.

You can also create a lightsaber hilt yourself. You can also get these parts or other lightsaber accessories from the link below.

How to Build a Lightsaber Hilt?

If you want to know how to make a lightsaber hilt at home, get the following parts from a nearby shop.

  • LED Holder (as an emitter.)
  • A 12 inches Chrome sink tube (1.5 inches diameter)
  • Two sink tube adapters
  • A switch
  • An endcap (pommel)

Use one sink tube adapter to attach the sink tube to the LED holder. Use the second adapter to attach the pommel to the other end of the sink tube. Your lightsaber hilt will have its basic skeleton ready. You can make it unique or a themed hilt by adding colors, accents, jewels, leather, etc.

You can get custom designs and holes from a switch on the steel sink tube from someone who knows how to use a drill. If you know how to use a drill, you may need a Dremel and file to get an excellent shape for your hilt.

To learn how to cut or drill your sink tube, go to the link below. You can also get any ready-made lightsaber hilt of any of your favorite characters or a custom one at the link below.

Lightsaber Electronics

The insides of the lightsaber hilt include a battery and an electronic board with all the electronic functions. You need a round electronic board that can easily fit inside the hilt. You can have multiple electronic components like LED units, activation buttons, and momentary switches installed on it. Follow the link below for a better understanding of the insides of the hilt.

It is optional, but you can also add sounds to your lightsaber hilt. The lightsaber’s buzzing sound is a must. Secondly, you can get a Xenopixel or Baselit soundboard for additional background sounds and clashing sounds at Ziasabers.com.

Batteries

You can use any AA battery to connect the electronic components. However, these batteries don’t last long enough. I recommend any model of lithium-ion batteries. These batteries light up the lightsabers and last forever.

Following the above steps will ensure the hilt’s outside and insides are ready. Do not install the electronics inside until you make sure the inside of the hilt is properly insulated. You can use cardboard or any other insulator for that purpose.

Check if your electronic board and battery fit inside, and keep them out until you have made your blade as well. Getting your blade ready is the second most important if you want to build a lightsaber.

How to Make a Lightsaber Blade?

You need a blade that can illuminate like a real lightsaber. Get a 40 inches long tube. I recommend a polycarbonate tube. You can customize the length if you want. Get two LED strips to fit inside. Keep these strips at least two inches less. If you get 40 inches tube, cut the LEDs to 38-39 inches, so you can easily fit them inside.

You need a refraction film to put inside the tube and an end cap to cover the top of the tube. The refraction film makes the light more radiant. It gives your lightsaber a more realistic look.

Once you have completed your circuit board, connect it with LEDs and put them inside the refraction film inside the tube. You need to have proper knowledge of making circuits. For this purpose, follow the link below.

The only thing that is left is proper wiring. Now fix the electronics and battery inside the hilt. Connect the LED strips of the blades with the electronics of the hilt. This is it! Your lightsaber is ready.

How will you determine the color of your lightsaber? Well! The LED strips you pick will decide the color of your lightsaber. If you want a Darth Vader lightsaber, choose red LED strips. If you want a Jedi lightsaber, go for a green or blue one. Although most LED strips give you multiple colors, you can make a lightsaber with a Neopixel blade at home.
