Master Yoda used his lightsaber for the last time against Darth Sidious, as seen in “Revenge of the Sith.” Master Yoda fought against Sidious in the senate chamber, intending to kill him. But, Darth Sidious had gone more powerful than before. Despite Master’s Yoda Lightsabers utmost efforts, he could not defeat Sidious. Master Yoda’s lightsaber fell into the senate chamber somewhere, and he had to run away from the chamber.

It was the last time we saw Master Yoda with his lightsaber. He hid on some tropical planet and stayed hidden for decades until he trained Luke Skywalker, as seen in the original trilogy. Master Yoda died on the same planet after he trained Luke. But, the mystery of Master Yoda’s lightsaber was never unveiled. What happened to Master Yoda’s lightsaber?

Several theories from canon and legends seemed to answer this question. We know none of the movies answered the question about Master Yoda’s lightsaber. So, let’s turn toward the theories to find out what really happened to Yoda’s lightsaber.

Master Yoda’s Lightsaber

His lightsaber color was green with a cylindrical hilt, and he used a unique lightsaber type known as the Shoto lightsaber. Master Yoda’s lightsaber appearance includes a small-sized hilt and small-sized blade. Only Jedis with small size races used the Shoto lightsaber mostly.

We got to see a great deal of Master Yoda’s lightsaber appearances in both prequels and Clone Wars. Master Yoda was a powerful Jedi. He defeated Sith lords like Count Dooku and even Sidious many times in the Clone Wars series.

A unique lightsaber of such a great Jedi cannot be forgotten. So, let’s see what the theories have to say about Yoda’s lightsaber.

Did Master Yoda Keep it to Himself?

According to a legend, Master Yoda kept his lightsaber to himself. After he lost to Sidious, he picked his lightsaber before he retreated. Then he ran to a planet and stayed hidden there. Master Yoda was a wise Jedi who strictly followed the Jedi Code.

He never liked violence and preferred to handle things with peace and harmony. Even when he was a Jedi Master in the Republic, he rarely used his lightsaber.

So, after he hid on the planet, he had no reason to use his lightsaber. There was no enemy on this planet. Plus, he did not like to use a lightsaber anyway. So, he kept his lightsaber in a box and kept it in his hut. This theory makes sense, but it has no canon evidence to support its claims.

This theory was ditched when we got a Canon explanation from the comics. So, let’s see what this canon explanation said about Master Yoda’s lightsaber.

Did the Empire destroy Yoda’s Lightsaber?

Master Yoda’s lightsaber appearance in a Darth Vader’s comic made the fans happy and sad both at the same time. This comic told us that Empire destroyed all the lightsabers of the dead Jedis. 10000 Jedis were guarding the galaxy, and Order 66 killed most of them. The Empire collected their lightsabers, lit up a big fire, threw all the lightsabers in the fire, and ultimately destroyed them.

The comic specifically explained that Master’s Yoda lightsabers was one of them. Mass Ameda, the right-hand man of Darth Sidious, picked up Yoda’s Shoto lightsaber from the senate and threw it in the fire. The Kyber crystal inside the Yoda’s lightsaber hilt caused a big explosion of Yoda’s lightsaber color. This green explosion indicated the lightsaber was gone.

This story was canon and was accepted as such. But, the “Book of Boba Fett.” series gave us a different answer, and this answer is the original answer as it is shown in the canon Tv series. Dave Felloni may have written the canon story again and modified all the errors he had to fix. The “Book of Boba Fett.” series finally revealed that Master Yoda’s lightsaber was not destroyed.

Yoda’s Lightsaber Book of Boba Fett

Master Yoda’s lightsaber appearances in a recent series, “Book of Boba Fett.” was comforting for the fans. Everyone who had thought that Yoda’s lightsaber was gone felt like reliving the Star Wars moments again. So, What really happened to Master’s Yoda lightsabers?

The Mandalorian series is set after the fall of the Empire, and we saw Luke Skywalker in the finale of its second season. He came to pick Grogu, also known as baby Yoda, to train him as a Jedi in his new Jedi academy.

In the Book of Boba Fett, we saw that Luke Skywalker trained Grogu in all the ways of the Jedi. After teaching him the basics, Luke offered Grogu a weapon we all wanted to see. He offered Master Yoda’s lightsaber to him. Grogu belonged to the same race as Yoda, and his lightsaber would have suited him the best.

Grogu did not accept the lightsaber, but fans finally found out that Master Yoda’s lightsaber was safe and sound with his apprentice. Alright, the lightsaber was not destroyed, but where was it before Luke found it? What happened to Yoda’s lightsaber after he ran away from the Sidious? How does Luke have Yoda’s lightsaber? Let’s find out.

How Does Luke Have Yoda’s Lightsaber?

The Star Wars saga has left all the fans puzzled. One canon comic says the lightsaber was destroyed. Other canon Tv series told us that Luke had Yoda lightsabers. So, what really happened? There is no definite answer yet, but I think we have to go back to the first theory I made.

Master Yoda picked up his lightsabers before running away from Sidious, and he kept it safe to himself. Master Yoda died on that hidden planet, and Luke, who was getting his training, took his lightsaber and kept it safe. Another possibility is that Luke came back to his hut after he defeated the Empire. He thoroughly explored the hut and found his lightsaber.

But wait! Is it possible that Master Yoda had another lightsaber? We know that Jedis often lost their lightsabers and got another. Anakin lost his lightsaber many times. Ahsoka Tano abandoned his lightsabers and got new ones.

So, it is also possible that Master Yoda had two lightsabers. The Empire destroyed his first lightsaber, but he created another one, and Luke kept this one safe after Yoda’s death. I will go with the last one as Matt Martin finally answered in favor of this theory.

Matt Martin is a group member of the Lucasfilms story group. When someone asked him about Yoda’s lightsaber, He responded that they were aware that his first lightsaber was destroyed. But it is not a contradiction. A 900-year-old Jedi probably had multiple lightsabers.
